Does anyone know the story, “Jocks with Benefits”? Or how about “Moon Scars”? Well then you probably know the incredible author who wrote both those stories. Today, I got to interview MicaP89, a very talented, smart and funny Wattpad author who has over 4,000 votes! All of her stories are amazing, including “Jocks with Benefits”, which is her most popular story. Here’s an excerpt of it:
“All I ever wanted was for Bobby Mason to notice me. But that was nearly impossible since I wasn’t apart of the In-Crowd. There was only one way for a nobody like me to become popular: date a jock. The only jock I knew was Taylor Drew. And I hated Taylor Drew. “
Here’s a little bit about Mica:
– Her real name is Mica
– She is 22 years old
– She is a graduate from College, and she majored in Computer Science
– She’s American (Yup, the crazy kind ;D)
– She makes her own covers
– She is a big kid at heart
– And Spell-check is her very best friend
We chatted for about an hour (an hour and 6 minutes to be exact!) and you wouldn’t believe how amazing it was! I mean, she gave me so much information that I am about to share with all of you that it was crazy! Crazy I say! Her love and dedication to her fans makes her an excellent person, plus she is a very talented writer! But enough with my ranting, let’s get on with the interview, shall we?!:
What is your name?
Mica, just like my wattpad name says, only everyone thinks it’s pronounced like My-ka
or Me-ka. But it’s actually Me-sha. Like Mischa Barton (but you may be to young to know who she is ). The P is for Pizza and Pen name, my dad calls me Mica Pizza.
How old are you?
22
When did you first start writing?
I don’t even know, I’ve been writing for what seems like forever. I remember writing a story when I was in elementary school, maybe 4th grade, about a girl named Maria and her best friend Jimmy Lee x_x
Do you remember what your first story was about? If so, can you explain?
Well Maria and Jimmy Lee is my “so called first story” and it was about a little girl who got a new babysitter, because her dad had to work and she hated her babysitter. They later became good friends.
Who inspired you to write?
It’s just always been a passion. Mostly coming up with story ideas. I would always come up with great ones in my head and finally I thought I would just write them down.
When did you first discover Wattpad?
I discovered Wattpad back in October. I was tired of my old website MissLiterati and I wanted a change. So I came here.
What is your favorite story on Wattpad?
I don’t have a favorite book on wattpad. There are way too many. But I’ll read anything by my friend SCCourtney, All of her books are my favorites.
Does anyone inspire you on Wattpad?
Everyone’s an inspiration. It takes serious guts to come up with stories and then post them. Wattpad authors have some serious heart and balls.
Even the girls who technically don’t have balls.
Out of all your books, which one is your favorite to write?
Ugh, that’s such a hard question. I really love writing my Moon Scars series. Currently I’m on the second book, Craters. It takes a lot of effort because it’s fantasy but I try to make it as realistic as possible, even though there are werewolves and a few other supernatural things I haven’t revealed yet.
What is writing to you?
Writing is freedom.
I think full freedom is being able to do what you want, when you want it, the way you want it and that’s how I feel about writing I can do anything to someone’s life (not that I like playing God or anything) but I love to be able to control something. I can make people fall in love, make people hate people, and be creative about it, it’s like Frankenstein, I’m the doctor creating a monster in this case crazy teenagers who fall in love and turn into werewolves.
What is your favorite genre to write about?
I don’t have a favorite genre. I love to write about everything and anything. But most of my stories are fantasy/paranormal/supernatural with a lot of drama and romance. So if you can combine them: Maybe call it fantaparasuperdramaromance then that’s the genre I love to write.
Do you see writing in your career?
Yes, in college, which I finally finished this past may I was a Computer Science Major (yes I’m one of those math nerds x_x) and I minored in Film! Next to reading books I’m obsessed with films and movie sall kind, in every genre, and I took a screen writing course two years ago. I had a blast so in the future I’d like to quit working in the Computer science industry and become a screen.
I would love to write the scripts for shows and movies on Life Time, Disney or Nickelodeon, and even ABC Family. I always vision my books as movies before I even see them as books. Maybe one day one of my stories will be in the theaters or on TV: written, directed, and produced by me! =D But that’s a far fetch dream that I really hope will come true!
I’m sure me and a a bunch of your fans would love to see Jocks and Moon Scars in the theatres, I would love it if I did. Your stories really speak to a lot of people.
Aww thanks, I hope so! And I could totally see Jocks as movie!
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you get through it?
YESSSS! WRITERS BLOCK! A WRITER’S WORST NIGHTMARE! Right now I’m currently suffering from it with ALL OF MY STORIES! To get over it though (which I think I finally have done) I read other books both on Wattpad and actual hard copy published ones. Usually in the genres I’m writing about. They help me get inspiration. Or sometimes I listen to music, take a walk, or look at pictures… those kind of things always help me ease my mind.
What advice would you give to future writers-in-training?
Write what you know and what you don’t know sometimes. Sometimes those crazy ideas that only make sense to you will actually make a good story! And don’t give up. Not every story grabs immediate attention, so be patient!
What are your strengths and weaknesses about writing?
My weakness is definitely grammar. Anything from commas to sentence structure. That’s something I always had a problem with and I finally started getting better at it in college. My strength would definitely be my consistent creativity. I can always pop out a new idea and throw unexpected twists in stories. I have a major one planned for Jocks with Benefits!
When you sit at the computer to write stuff for your books, is it hard to think of stuff or does it come easily?
It’s half and half. A lot of times if I’m already frustrated about what’s going on in my crazy life it’s definitely hard. Other times it does come really easy and I’ll even laugh out loud or smile at the computer as the ideas pop into my head. My friends and family stare at me like I’m crazy because I’m smiling at a computer.
How would you describe yourself?
Wow, that’s a hard one. You would think a grown women would know how to describe herself.
Let’s see: TALKATIVE, in case you haven’t noticed. Haha.
Funny, outgoing, a tad bit crazy but aren’t we all, and super hyper. I get really excited over the craziest things! And I’m definitely a BIG KID! I’ll never grow up. This is weird because I’m really organized and serious when it comes to the things that require it but any other time.
I’m FOREVER 13! I love watching Disney Channel and Nickelodeon and Saturday morning cartoons!
How long did it take for you to build up all those votes and fans?
I don’t know. I wasn’t really paying attention to it. It just sort of happened by itself. And when I noticed it I was like WOW! I had a really great fan base from Moon Scars and my other story Serenade Me, and then when my friend Heather asked me to finish her story Jocks with Benefits because she was going through a rough time in her life. I did and that’s when everyone started fanning and voting like crazy!
How did you feel when your friend asked you to take over Jocks with Benefits?
I was perfectly fine with it but at the same time I was afraid I wasn’t going to do the story justice.
Well it’s obvious you a very talented- the story is a huge hit!
Thanks!
Is there anything else you’d like your fans to know?
That I LOVE AND ADORE THEM! They make me want to continue to write! I don’t know if I would if they weren’t on the side lines cheering me on!
So that is it! There you have it! I hope you enjoyed this interview as much as I did!
See you next Saturday!
